Some really useful app(s)(lications) for you – part 1 of 2

It has been over a year that I have been plying my wares in our region of The Costa Blanca, and of course distributing and writing for The Big Glossy, it’s been a bit of a struggle but I’ve met some lovely people and am glad that I have been able to help them with all their technology needs.

It seems like each edition of The BG seems to come round quicker than the last and I find myself wondering just what on earth I am going to write about this time (if you’d like to see an article on anything in particular, please do contact me atsupport@all-tech-plus.com and I’ll see what I can do). Then I thought back about some of the advice and things I’ve suggested to people over this last year and decided that I’d share with you my personal list of top 3 must have app(s)(lications). You might be wondering why I’ve written it like that, and that’s simply because I’d just like to point out the difference between apps and applications.

The former, are programs that you download, install and run on your mobile phone or tablet whilst the latter are concerned with programs for use on your personal computer. Apps are typically much much cheaper for any paid for versions. Anyway, in this edition you have my top 3 apps, and I’m saving applications for the next edition.

Don’t forget, you can see this article and all my other articles on my website at http://www.all-tech-plus.comand whilst you are there, why not register on the site (you can use your existing social networking logon if you wish – just look for the logo) or signup for my newsletter. It’s free!

ThickButtons

If it isn’t difficult enough typing on a normal keyboard, then the small format of mobile phone keyboards leaves a lot to be desired. This award winning free app takes typing prediction a step further and highlights and enlarges the keys which it thinks you are likely to use next. It’s also available in 32 languages.

Maniana – To Do List

A great little to do list app which is also available in a number of languages. You can set a task and place it in today’s to do list, or postpone it until, well mañana (which is how the app got it’s name. There’s a lovely little video of the author’s little boy on the play store site which explains it – it really its childs play!

A perfect solution for every procrastinator!

Aquamail

Whilst most mobile devices come with a factory supplied e-mail solution, they’re not all good. Aquamail is probably more like your desktop e-mail application than most. There’s a free version (supports up to 2 e-mail accounts) as well as a paid for version and I thought it was worth the meagre €4 to upgrade. It even shows you little pictures of your contacts against emails from them if your contacts have been setup with a photo. It has a smart folder option whereby all your e-mail inboxes can be shown as one so you can check all your e-mails in one place and get rid of your other mail apps!

Available for free on Android mobile devices.

Easy automatic setup for popular email services: Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, FastMail, Apple mail services (@me.com / @mac.com), GMX, AOL, and more. Recognizes mail accounts at domains hosted by Google Apps, Yahoo BizMail, Office 365, and others.
